Negative emotions inevitably arise in our lives, but persistent negative emotions can be harmful to our mental health. Dr. Hannah England offers a number of suggestions for dealing with this:
First you need to recognise negative thinking when it arises.
Once you are confident in recognising negative thoughts when they arise, you can begin to interrogate your automatic thinking patterns.
Create distance from your thoughts.
Start a thought diary.
Use de-catastrophizing techniques.
